Pharmacological Action

Olive leaf extract has a wide number of consituents, including oleuropien and several types of flavonoids. Oleuropein is a polyphenolic fraction that is the most important component of the olive leaf and have stong anti-oxidant properties. Studies show that oleuropein inhibits LDL oxidation, which explains its role in the prevention of coronary heart disease. Olive leaf extract has been shown to be effective in killing bacteria, fungus and viruses. Oleuropeoside has been shown to have vasodilatory effects on vascular muscle epothelium. Olive leaf is believed to have hypoglyceamic activity through two mechanisms: the potentiation of glucose-induced insulin release, and increased peripheral uptake of glucose. Studies show that oleuropein enhances thermogenesis increasing UCP1 content in IBAT and noradrenaline and adrenaline secretions

Dosage Directions

Adults and children over 12 years of age: Take 1-2 capsules twice daily or as recommended by a health care provider. This dose can be doubled for acute infections. Children 7-12 years of age: Take 1 capsule once or twice daily. Take with meals.

Do not exceed recommended dosages unless on the advice of a health care provider. Do not use this product if you are allergic to any of the ingredients. If you are on any medication or suffering from any medical condition, it is advisable to seek medical advice before starting any new medicine, supplement or remedy.

Side Effects

Orally, olive leaf is well-tolerated, but can irritate the stomach lining and should be taken with meals.

Contraindications

There are no known contraindications.

Product Interactions

Antidiabetes medicines: Theoretically, concurrent use of olive leaf extract may have blood glucose lowering effects. Monitor blood glucose levels closely. Some antidiabetes medicines include glimepiride, glyburide, insulin, pioglitazone, rosiglitazone and others. Antihypertensive medicines: Theoretically concomitant use with olive leaf may enhance blood pressure-lowering effects.

Special Precautions

Diabetes: Olive leaf might lower blood glucose. Monitor glucose and adjust therapy accordingly. Blood pressure: Olive leaf may reduce blood pressure. Individuals using blood pressure medications should do so with caution.

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

Safety during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been established, do not use.
